Ian comes from Northampton in England. He encourages students to think independently and to use evidence to form their own understanding of the past. He also inspires learning through an active and skills-based approach. He has a particular interest in student motivation, which he explored during his Master’s in Education. Before joining Britannica, he taught English as a foreign language in the Czech Republic and Portugal and holds the CELTA English Language teaching qualification. He also worked as a History teacher in a secondary school in Leicester and was previously a financial services market analyst with Barclays. In his free time, Ian is an avid concert goer, chess player and scuba diver. He also spends a significant amount of his time following sports (especially rugby and the Northampton Saints!), learning Hungarian and looking after his baby son!
