With the hot summer months approaching and many of us are eager to relax by a lake or the sea, it becomes more important to learn about water safety.

Our young swimmers have been taking their learning beyond basic swimming skills by participating in the RLSS Rookie Lifeguard Programme. This exciting and practical course introduces children to essential lifesaving knowledge while helping them grow in confidence and responsibility around water. We are proud to offer a programme that is not only highly regarded but also unique—currently one of the very few opportunities for children to access the RLSS Rookie Lifeguard course outside of the UK.

The Rookie Lifeguard programme is designed to teach children how to stay safe in and around water, as well as how to help others in a safe and controlled way. Throughout their sessions, pupils develop a range of important skills, including safe entries and exits, floating and survival techniques, and an understanding of how to respond in emergency situations.

One of the most valuable aspects of the programme is its focus on decision-making. Children learn how to assess risks, recognise potential dangers, and understand when and how to seek help. Using a variety of engaging activities, they are introduced to key rescue techniques—always with an emphasis on keeping themselves safe first.

It has been fantastic to see the enthusiasm and commitment shown by our students. The Rookie Lifeguard programme not only develops stronger swimmers but also helps to equip children with skills that could one day make a real difference.
