September 30 - October 11 | Collection boxes by the main entrance and the library
We are excited and proud to join United Way Hungary's Book Collection Campaign!
Do you have used books at home that are still in good condition, suitable for the 7-14 age group?
Bring them to school and drop them off in the designated collection box by the main entrance and in the Library between September 30 – October 11.
You can also send a personal message, as there will be stickers available next to the box on which you can write a few encouraging words to the children in need.
During the campaign, the foundation’s volunteers will deliver the collected books to primary schools, study halls, and children’s homes, where educators will organise special programmes to encourage students to pick up as many exciting reads as possible throughout the school year and during holidays.
What kind of books are we looking for?
- Primarily Hungarian-language books of literary value, but English-language books are also welcome
- In good condition, not torn or scribbled on
What kind of books are we not looking for?
- Activity books, as they can mostly be used only once
- Sticker collector books
- Books related to computer games or TV shows (e.g., Minecraft)
Remember, even one book can change a child's life!
Did you know that one in four children in Hungary struggles with reading, meaning they are functionally illiterate?
Reading and comprehension are fundamental skills essential for effective learning, communication, and generally navigating society. Reading develops children’s language and literacy skills and stimulates creative thinking.
Unfortunately, the local public education system is not always able to effectively support children who struggle with learning difficulties or attention disorders, which is why special programmes are essential. Reading and comprehension difficulties can shape a student's future for life, as these children learn with more difficulty, fall behind their peers, reducing their chances for further education and narrowing their life opportunities, thus deepening the social divide.
With this initiative, we are hoping to make a difference to the lives of underprivileged children around Hungary.
Thank you in advance for your participation!
