Welcome back to all of our returning families and welcome to all of our new families! I hope you have all had a wonderful summer, whether you travelled far or relaxed at home in Budapest or Balaton.
The new school year has begun and we were delighted to welcome your children. The teachers were so pleased with how well they have settled – even our littlest ones!
It has been a busy start to the week in Primary with tours of the school, getting to know the Pirate’s Cove and making new friends! there has also been time for lots of lovely learning in class too.
Class News Year 2 Mersey enjoyed the musical talents of Mr Nikola while we helped him perform to Pink Panther theme song! What wonderful musicians we have in Year 2!
Year 5 Thames did a 'snowballing' get to know you activity first of all in the classroom, followed by some fun outdoor team games . In the afternoon there was intense concentration from pupils as they aimed to create a colourful Dodecahedron. Mrs Robertson was proud of the way they all had a go and helped each other.
Year 1 have had a lovely photo shoot for their first day of school. Please see the gallery for pictures.
Year 4 Taw have been working in groups to brainstorm what makes a good student and teacher. These discussions have also lead to our understanding of the golden rules and classroom expectations, setting our standards high for learning and teaching in the first week back. Year 4 Taw have also been practicing 1 minute meditation, discussed the benefits of mindfulness, calming down after breaktimes to focus on learning and how meditation and breathing can help with conflict resolution. Please see the gallery for pictures.
Year 3 Stour played lots of getting to know you games, ice breaker games, circle time sharing holiday news. The children also said they want to fly high in year 3 and made their kites with their hopes for this academic year. Please see the gallery for pictures.
Year 5 Teme have been warm up mathematics and English games to kick start the year. We have used www.geoguessr.com to help us engage our geography brains. We have made a year group history timeline.
In Art 5 Teme sketched out favourite object then created a 3D model.
Meet the Teacher
You received a letter about Meet the Teacher next week on Thursday 5th September. Sessions will be running fro 15.45 and 16.20 so you have the opportunity to meet 2 teachers if you have more than one child at Britannica. We hope to see many of you there!
Counselling Services in Primary
We are delighted to introduce a new service in Primary this year. Miss Kitti Kovacs has extended her counselling services to our younger children in Years 1-6. We know that our little ones (and bigger ones!) are learning to be a good friend, resolve conflicts and can have big feelings. Sometimes they may need a little help, support and to talk things through.
Appointments with Miss Kovacs will be available with a referral from parents, teachers or (in Years 4-6) from children themselves, although parents would be informed if your child had an appointment.
There is also an opportunity for small social groups to run to teach children key skills which will help them in the classroom and on the playground. Parents would also be informed if your child was participating in a social skills group.
If you have any questions, you can email me or Miss Kovacs at k.b.kovacs@britannicaschool.hu
Class Representatives 2019/20
If you are interested in being a Class Representative this year, please email me to express your interest. We would like to secure these by Meet the Teacher on the 5th September so that we can start the year already set with our group. I hope many of you offer to be involved in school life this year as our wonderful reps from years past have helped to make excellent improvements across Primary and have been a wonderful bunch for me to work with! I hope that many of you will get involved again and can even share the role with other keen mums or dads in the class too.
Uniform Swap
In the Primary Corridor on Thursday 5th September (for Meet the Teacher), you will find lots of school uniform in various sizes available to take for free.
This is because our generous families have donated their outgrown uniforms for other children to use too. Please take what you need and feel free to donate any used uniforms (washed first, please) into the donation box also located on the Primary Corridor in the furture.
Many thanks to Mrs Jessie Labov for her organisation of the uniform swap!
Pick Up at the end of the Day
Please could parents wait on the top yard for their children at the end of the day? If you arrive early, waiting in the cool canteen is also a good option. If you wait outside the classrooms, it gets too crowded and difficult for teachers and teaching assistants to deliver the children safely to the bus, late pick up or the top yard. It is also noisy and disruptive to the end of day lessons when parents talk with each other outside the door.
I know that you cannot wait to see your children and they cannot wait to see you too! However, really helps the end of the day run smoothly if you wait in the correct area. Thank you for your support.
Assembly
This week, assembly was an introduction to new children, teachers and teaching assistants. We discussed new beginnings, who can help with Miss Kitti Kovacs, our school psychologist, and there was an exciting announcement for our Year 5 and 6s from Miss Pal about House Captains!
