Secondary News

Welcome to our first Secondary news of the year.

We are coming to the end of our first week back and I have very little memory of the summer holidays already. I feel like we have had a very ordered start to the year, the children in all year groups seem to have settled in very quickly and I see plenty of smiling faces as I go around the school.

We had our best year yet with iGCSE results this summer, so very well done last year’s YR11 – now YR12. 42% of our iGCSEs were A*/A which is fantastic and almost all students met or exceeded their targets. We’re aiming for even more this year!

You will notice that we have changed a few things this year particularly that we are no longer using paper planners in secondary. They were being used effectively by some students but not at all by many so we have decided to try to use Canvas for the setting and monitoring of homework. The students are currently being trained on this! We are also really trying to ensure that all students bring in their own device every day as outlined in the BYOT Policy we sent out. Finally, we are really trying to encourage parents not to send their children to school with their smart phone as they won’t be able to use these as an alternative to a laptop or tablet. Your support in this is very welcome.

The other major change you will notice is with our staff, we have some fantastic new teachers who have really settled in quickly and I’m sure your children have been coming home full of enthusiasm.

These are the form Tutors for the next academic year.

We also welcome Peter Sprawson who is a Humanities teacher and will also take on the role of head of KS3 (Yrs 7 -8) while Laura Peters moves to KS4 (Years 9-11)

Next Thursday you will have the opportunity to meet all our new staff, and ‘old’ staff to at our Meet The Teacher Event. This will run from 3:45 – 5:00 pm. We will do a brief presentation in the Auditorium at 3:45 and again at 4:20 so you will meet myself and the Key Stage Coordinators at that time and then be able to go to classrooms to meet tutors and teachers. I really hope we see lots of you there!

I am really excited about this year, we have a great group of students across all the year groups, a really enthusiastic and skillful set of teachers and, a new cooling system in the Auditorium!
