Welcome to this week’s secondary news.

We started the week back after our break with Science Day on Monday. What a delightful way to get back into the swing of things!

After a really informative and entertaining assembly, I particularly enjoyed Mr Kennedy’s magic trick, KS3 students took part in three different activities exploring different aspects of the sciences. They investigated a crime scene, using phorensics and participated in a scavenger hunt collecting key facts about Science.

The students have settled back into their working routines very quickly. I have been observing a lot of lessons this week and I am consistently impressed with our children’s attitude to learning. They are generally thoroughly engaged in their learning, responsive and keen to work hard in their lessons. This is really important for their future success and particularly so for the Year 11’s who have exams coming up. They have impressed me recently with their mature attitude to their work and, at the moment, still appear calm but focussed. I hope this continues over the next three months!

Just a reminder to all parents, we are now unable to use the tent area as it has been removed. We are asking all secondary students to bring their swimming gear on a Monday morning and keep it in school at all times, to give us flexibility if the weather turns against us.

Phones – this only applies to a few parents but occasionally when I stop a child using their mobile phone inappropriately they tell me that “my Mum texted me, I have to respond!” Now, how accurate this is is tricky to say but may I request that if you urgently need to contact your child, call the school reception who can get a message to them, or alternatively text at lunchtime between 12.45 and 1.30. This would really help us with managing their ‘phone usage, thank you.

Have a great week!
