Oscar grew up in Birmingham, England. He studied Liberal Arts at the University of Leeds, including one year studying abroad at the University of Ottawa, Canada, before returning to his hometown to start a career in teaching. He graduated through the Teach First programme, receiving his PGDE with a mathematics specialism, and spent three years working in the UK before joining Britannica. His interests outside of school include travelling and learning new languages, literature, playing and watching live music, and sports, particularly playing football.
