Everything you need to know about the use of technology, electronic devices and digital learning here at Britannica.

In the first week of school, your child will receive a Gmail account as well as a user account for Canvas, our online learning platform. The IT department will prepare these for you and your Class Teacher or Form Tutor will share the information with you.

The school requests that parents do not send their children to school with a mobile phone. Primary students are forbidden to use a mobile phone in school. Should you choose to send your child to school with a mobile phone, please note that you do so at your own risk. The school takes no responsibility for the security, monitoring and safe usage of mobile phones. The use of mobile phones in classrooms is strictly forbidden across the school.

Here at Britannica, we are keen to take full advantage of the value technology can bring to education and make the most of the enhancement in the skillset of our community that has
taken place in the past few years.

The school operates a BYOD (Bring your own device) policy across Years 4 to 13. These students should bring a suitable laptop, or equivalent device with a keyboard to their lessons.

The school also has sets of netbooks and iPads for our younger Primary students to use as appropriate within the curriculum.

Britannica Digital Platforms

Parent Portal

The Parent Portal can be accessed via the school website in the top right hand side of the home page, clicking on the person icon.

Parents can update contact details, check your child’s attendance and download their academic reports which are published at the end of each Term.

A welcome letter is sent with details of how to set up your account at the start of the year. For families starting mid-year, the welcome letter is sent before reports are published.

Canvas

All online learning is set and can be found on our Virtual Learning Environment, Canvas. All Secondary homework is set on Canvas, rather than using a planner. In Primary, it is a mixture of the two methods. Often teachers choose to set the work up on Canvas with links to Wakelet for resources and tasks to be completed.

You will receive a pairing code from your child’s Class Teacher or Form Tutor so that you can track your child’s assignments on Canvas, plus have access to a wealth of links for home and school learning and other communications too.

There are also various Parent Workshops on the topic of Canvas to help you get familiar with the system.
